Crisis Debriefing Sessions

In the emotionally charged world of animal welfare, a crisis situation can be a turning point for a team. Critical incidents can either strain and divide an organization or, with the right support, bring a team closer together. When your team faces these intense situations, providing a safe space for them to process and debrief can make all the difference.

As a licensed professional counselor with a background in animal welfare, I specialize in debriefing sessions tailored to animal welfare organizations, creating a compassionate and structured space where team members can come together to openly process difficult experiences. My goal is to help your team turn these challenges into moments of resilience and unity, instead of tearing them apart.

Why hold a debriefing session?

Reduce Compassion Fatigue and Secondary Trauma: Debriefing allows staff and/or volunteers the opportunity to process their emotions in a safe and supportive way, which helps to normalize and validate their response. Debriefing also helps to reduce feelings of isolation and decreases the risk of developing compassion fatigue and secondary trauma.

Foster Team Cohesion and Resilience: Facing a crisis together can become an opportunity to build trust, strengthen bonds, and reinforce the shared values, mission, and passion within your team.

Protect Mental Health: By providing a safe and supportive space to acknowledge and release emotional burdens, debriefing can help to restore focus, morale, and psychological well-being among team members.

What do sessions look like?

Debriefing sessions are designed to be safe, respectful environment where everyone feels encouraged to share as much or as little as they feel comfortable. Through structured reflection, guided discussions, and practical strategies, we’ll work together to help your team process the traumatic experience, support one another, and build resilience.

Sessions are generally two hours, and can be customized to fit the unique needs of your organization, whether for small teams, departments, or entire organizations.
