About
Jennifer Blough is on a mission to improve the mental health of those who work in animal care, welfare, and activism. She is a licensed professional counselor with a master’s degree in counseling psychology and certifications in compassion fatigue, trauma, pet loss grief, and posttraumatic growth.
Jennifer is the owner of Deepwater Counseling in Southeast Michigan. She is also the author of To Save a Starfish: A Compassion Fatigue Workbook for the Animal Welfare Warrior and the upcoming book, Beyond Compassion Fatigue: Healing Trauma, Building Resilience, and Finding Hope in Animal Care, Welfare, and Activism.
As an ethical vegan, Jennifer has been involved in animal activism since she was a child. She has worked professionally in various roles within animal care and control, including animal control officer (level two certified cruelty investigator), animal evaluator, adoption counselor, animal care tech, wildlife specialist, and euthanasia tech. Jennifer currently volunteers at her local animal shelter and is active in various animal welfare and rights advocacy efforts.
Her background in animal welfare, activism, and counseling has provided her with a deep understanding of the psychological and emotional challenges facing animal welfare professionals and activists. This knowledge drives her mission to help them sustain their passion for helping animals.
